Deer Butts

I don't know what happened to me, but all I got in these pictures were deer butts.

This was taken from our back porch. Deer come in the yard all the time, and they're used to people enough that a goofy woman with a camera isn't enough to frighten them away. There were four in the yard this time, but we've seen as many as six or seven at once.

In addition to them and the o'possum, we have stray cats (lots!), squirrels (which is surprising given the number of cats) and raccoons. Those little buggers have a tendency to get in the trash every now and then, and yes, they can get the lids off just fine.

Although we see the deer all the time, the raccoons and possums only make an occasional appearance. We haven't seen Petey (possum) since around Christmas, and it's been even longer since we saw the raccoons. I think they show up for the cat food whenever times get especially hard. You should see how weirded out the cats are by a possum on the porch.

We have no deer but have raccoons and possums. Yesterday I dropped my daughter off at her apartment and there was this huge turkey walking down the street stopping traffic.
Understand we live 2min. away from NYC!

I can relate to stray cats! We have a ton of barn cats. The rule is if you show up for dinner you eat :)

Oh, goodness, possums! We had a huge one that would come into the garage and eat the cats' food. I finally stopped putting food out there and made the cats come inside to eat. We also had a raccoon that was living in a box up on one of the shelves out there. All that time, I thought the rustling was just one of the cats getting comfy until one night I surprised it as it was coming out for a nightly foray. I was as surprised as it was. All the housing construction running up into the sides of the mountains over the years has driven critters out of their habitats and they've come into the neighborhoods. We also have a selection of hawks and some great horned owls. I'm afraid to let my rabbits play outside in their bunny runs without human supervision. And this is in good ol' Rocket City, USA.

I haven't seen a possum since I left the midwest, I think. We do see a few other things around here, though. We have a photo of a bull elk in our side yard. And I have seen deer and fox as I ride my bike to work.

Thanks for stopping by my place.

I love deer... sometimes I really wish we lived farther in the woods so I could see more of them. So far all we get here are garter snakes (scare the crap out of me in the summer when I'm walking around the yard, because they blend in with the grass); an army of rabbits who we are currently at war with because they keep decimating my mom's flower garden, and then reproducing; and some really cute little squirrels. But nothing big like deer. Although we did have a bear once, but that was more scary than cute, and it was only once.
